Skills acquired by playing in the sandpit
Playing in a sandpit is crucial for children, as they learn a lot from playing, make new friends, get some fresh air and sunshine, and enjoy playing. Although it often happens that children also touch different substances and materials in the sandpit and even eat things, this can be avoided with a little more attention. If you asked the children, they would say that playing in the sandpit is great fun and they would play all the time, but if you asked the parents, they would say that the children are dirty and even have sand in their pockets. 🙂

Developing a variety of virtues and skills through sandpit play
In the sandpit, children create – dig, build, transport sand, build houses and castles – and thus acquire many virtues and skills that have an important influence on their future development.
- Playing in the sandpit helps children to build social contacts – make friends, establish their position in society, feel accepted and worthy, and have fun. Social contacts also encourage group play and joint projects, where communication, patience, compromise and the development of empathy are important. In this way, the child also begins to perceive the feelings of others and to take them into account.
- Strengthening finomotor skills – playing in a sandpit is great for developing finomotor skills, as children create with their hands, strengthening their fine grip and precision.
- Stimulating eye-hand coordination, creativity and imagination.
- Sensorimotor – through play, children strengthen their sensory skills by touching different materials to learn about the world.
